Requirement is the request a Project Manager makes, such as a generic resource. An open requirement is when there are hours entered into a resource plan, but no specific resource committed to those hours. Commitment is when a resource is committed to a project resource plan. When a resource is committed to a project resource plan their their remaining availability decreases. This article covers requirements and commitments.

- The number on the left of the “|” is the requirement in the example above, 200 hours for Mar, and 150 hours for April, and 100 for May and June.
- The number on the right of the “|” is the remaining balance to be fulfilled. So, in the above example below, 100 of the 200 hours have been committed to the resource below that line. So there are 100 remaining hours to be assigned in March and 100 hours have been committed.
- The number on the right of the “|” means there are 50 hours that need to be fulfilled. In the example above there are 50 hours in April that still need to be fulfilled.
- Any negative number on the right of the “|” means the requirement has been surpassed. In the above example, there are 50 hours that shave been surpassed in May.
