How do I launch Microsoft Project?

This lesson covers launching Microsoft Project to build or modify a project schedule for your project in EPM Live.

Note: IE10 and IE11 are the supported browsers when using EPM Live with Microsoft Project.  

1. Click the Projects Link

  • Click the Projects link located on the Navigation Menu.

2. Click Edit Plan

  1. Click the ellipsis menu (...) to the right of the project name in the Project Center.
  2. Click Edit Plan.

3. Click the Microsoft Project  Option

  1. If desired, check the "Use as default planner".  It is recommended to select your default planner. Then, going forward, you won’t be prompted, as the planner will already be selected.
  2. Click the Microsoft Project link.

Note: IE10 and IE11 are the supported browsers when using EPM Live with Microsoft Project.  

3.1. What takes place behind the scenes with Microsoft Project

The system will look into the Project Schedules Library, into the MS Project folder. If a project schedule with your project name exists in the folder, that schedule will open in Microsoft Project. If a project schedule with your project name does not exist in the folder, you will be directed to Step 4, where you will be prompted to select a blank schedule, select a template, or import an existing schedule.

4. Select the Appropriate Option

  • Select the appropriate option.

5. Enter Your Password

  1. If prompted, enter your log-in credentials.
  2. When you first launch the site and are prompted to login make sure you check the box for “Sign me in automatically”.  If you don't, your plan will not open correctly and you won't be able to publish or save your plan.
  3. Click Sign In.

6. Build a Project Schedule

  • Build a project schedule in Microsoft Project and save. Upon saving this Microsoft Project Schedule, the schedule (.mpp) file will live within EPM Live in the  Project Schedules Library, in the MSProject folder. The name of the schedule will be the name of your project.
