How do I enter a Summary Task into a Microsoft Project schedule?

Summary Tasks make it possible to enter tasks into groups. By grouping tasks, it is possible to expand or collapse the groups in the schedule. This lesson covers entering a Summary Task into a Microsoft Project schedule.

1. Click the Task Name Cell

  • Click in the cell grid where the Summary Task will appear.

2. Click Summary

From the Task tab, click the Summary button on the ribbon.

3. Type the Name of Summary Task

  1. Type the name of the Summary Task.
  2. View the Summary Bar displayed to the right in the Gantt Chart.
