How do I add a trend chart?

This article explains how to add and configure a trend chart to an EPM Live Analytics report.  The steps are applicable whether you are building a new report or updating an existing report.

A trend chart type will generate a line graph with a number of different options. There are two modes to select various options: a simple view and an advanced view.

1. Navigate to the EPM Live Analytics Reports Page

  1. On the navigation menu, select Reports to open the Business Intelligence Center.
  2. Click EPM Live Analytics.

2. Open Report Designer

  1. If you are on the Reports landing page, hover over a report to show the Print and Edit icon buttons.  Click the Edit icon.  -- Or --
  2. If you are already viewing a report, click the Open in Designer icon.

3. Navigate to Chart or Chart2 Tab

Select the Char

4. Select Trend

On the Chart Type drop down menu, select Trend.

4.1. Enter Chart Title & Number of Records

  1. Title: This text box allows the user to add a title to the chart. It will appear above the chart.
  2. Records: This text box specifies the maximum number of records to include in the chart data.

4.2. Select Date Field

Date: This settings selects the time metric for the chart. The options in this field are detected automatically from your selected data sources.

4.3. Select Date Function & Format

Date function and format: The format option may or may not be applicable to select.

4.4. Select Value

Value: This selects the data metric for the chart. This can be filled with any numeric data.

4.5. Select Value Function & Format

Based on the Value selected, select the applicable function and format.

5. Click Advanced Properties

Click Advanced Properties for additional available settings.

5.1. Advanced Properties

When you click Advanced Properties, the following additional settings appear.

  • Separator: The metric that the chart will separate the data.  Based on the separator, select the applicable function and format.
  • Value Ranges: Checking this box will display the value of the data at each increment mark on the chart.
  • Show Legend: Displays a legend below the trend chart color coded to the separator values displayed.
  • Show Value Labels: Checking this box will display the value of the data at each increment mark on the chart.
  • Smooth: Checking this box will display smooth curves on the trend chart instead of straight lines.
  • Label Title (Bottom): The text of the label that runs across the bottom of the chart.
  • Value Title (Left): The text of the label that runs across the left of the chart.
  • Scale %: Scale your chart to a percentage of the original size.

5.2. Select Separator

Separator: Select the field that you want to separate the data.  In this example, the resource plan data will be separated by project, so there will be a separate trend line per project.

  • Show Legend: Displays a legend below the trend chart color coded to the separator values displayed.
  • Show Value Labels: Checking this box will display the value of the data at each increment mark on the chart.
  • Smooth: Checking this box will display smooth curves on the trend chart instead of straight lines.
  • Label Title (Bottom): The text of the label that runs across the bottom of the chart.
  • Value Title (Left): The text of the label that runs across the left of the chart.
  • Scale %: Scale your chart to a percentage of the original size.
