How do I launch the Online Project Planner from Project Center?

EPM Live's  Online Planner can be used for many list items. For example, in your site, you may have an Online Applications Planner, an Online Service Request Planner, or an Online Project Planner. This article and the articles that follow in this chapter,  cover creating a project schedule using the Online Project Planner. Work is assumed when individuals are assigned, but work hours can be added  as well as multiple resources.  There are three tabs broken down into groups and within the groups there are different tools available. On the Task tab, it is possible to assign resources, check resources, import and Excel, Csv, Tsv, or SharePoint List, as well as save as a template.  On the Project tab, associated Items like issues, backlogs, and documents can be viewed. On the Views tab, Resource Usage can be viewed. This article focuses on launching the Online Project Planner from the Project Center.

1. Click Edit Plan

  1. From the Project Center, click the ellipsis dots to the right of the project name.
  2. Click Edit Plan.

2. Select the Project Planner from the Select Planner Window

  1. If desired, check the "Use as default planner" box.
  2. Select “Project Planner” from the Select Planner Window.

Note: The system will look into the Project Schedules Library, into the Project Planner folder. If a project schedule with your project ID exists in the folder, that schedule will open in the Project Planner. If a project schedule with your project ID does not exist in the folder, you will be prompted to select a blank schedule or select a template.After building and saving a project schedule in the Project Planner, the schedule file will live within EPM Live in the  Project Schedules Library, in the ProjectPlanner folder. The name of the schedule will be the ID of your project.

Important Note: You MUST check the "Use as default planner" box BEFORE you select the scheduling tool you wish to use. For example, if you check the “Use as default planner" box first and then select the Project Planner option, then the Online Project Planner will launch by default each time you use Edit Plan.

3. View the Online Project Planner

  • View the Online Project Planner displayed.

Note:  If needed, it is possible to launch the Online Project Planner from the Task Center. To do so, follow the steps above starting from the Task Center.
