How do I enable notifications?

In this article, you will learn how to configure the notifications settings available in each List App.  These notifications are the instant notifications that go to users when they are assigned to work and have pending updates.  These notifications show in the general notifications number over the user profile photo.

Note: The instructions in this article are applicable to Administrators in the Top Level Site as well as to Power Users who have Owner permissions on a workspace.

1. Navigate to the List Settings

Navigate to the List App.  

  1. On the View Toolbar, select the Settings Gear.

2. Open General Settings (EPM Live)

Under the General Settings heading, select General Settings (EPM Live).

3. Enable Notifications

Enable Notifications: When selected/enabled, users will receive an email notification when a list item is assigned to them.  This setting is most applicable for List Apps that are "Work Lists," such as Tasks, Issues, etc. for work items to which users are assigned.  Also, notifications appear for the Project Manager when his/her project has pending updates from team members.    Note: This notification is an immediate email notification for the item assigned as well as a Notification in the General Notifications Number in the top right corner of the screen.

3.1. Save and Close General Settings

When finished, click Save.

4. Email Template for Notifications

This is what the notification looks like.  The same content shows in the General Notifications menu and in an email.  

4.1. Manage Email Templates

The following is only applicable to on-premise customers.  Online SaaS customers may not update the notifications email template.

For on-premise customers, the email template that is used for notifications may be modified, to an extent.  To modify the notification email template, go to SharePoint Central Admin.  On the General Application Settings page, click Manage Email Templates.

4.2. Edit Assigned To Email

To the right of the Assigned To email, click Edit.  Make the desired changes.  The verbiage of the email and the existing fields in the email may be modified.  However, additional fields cannot be added to the email template.
