How do I edit the navigation for a Community?


This article will show you how to configure the navigation links in your site's Navigation Menu.

Note: The instructions in this article are only applicable to Administrators in the Top Level Site as well as to Power Users who have Owner permissions on a workspace.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Navigate to Manage Communities

  1. Select the Settings Gear icon on the Icon Bar.
  2. Under the Configuration heading, select Manage Communities.

2. Edit the Community Quick Launch

Under the Action heading, click on QuickLaunch (Navigation) for the desired Community.

2.1. Edit Existing Navigation Items

Click the Edit icon to the left of the link title to edit or delete it.

2.2. Enter / Update the Link Details

  1. Modify the URL for the web address.
  2. Modify the Description.  This is the title that will appear on the Navigation Menu.
  3. When finished, click the OK button.
  4. To delete a link, click the Delete button.  This does not delete the content (list/library/page) to which it links.  It merely deletes the link pointing to that content from this community.

Note: If the new Quick Launch link will be an internal link to a list or library within your Site App, ensure that the URL is a relative URL.  A relative URL means that the portion of the URL up to the Site App name is removed.  In this example, the full URL would be Timesheet/My Timesheet.aspx; then the relative URL is /sites/ckw0503/Lists/My Timesheet/My Timesheet.aspx (as shown in the screenshot).

3. Change the Link Order in the Navigation Menu

Click the Change Order button.

3.1. Select the Link Order

  1. For each link, select the desired location.  The links will display in numeric order from top to bottom.
  2. When finished, click the OK button.


Once all changes have been performed; you will be able to see the new re-arranged navigation order for the Community.

To return to the Manage Communities Page, click the X in the top right corner to close the window.
