What are the S, VG, and A boxes?

This article explains how to edit the field properties to sort, visually group, or have a calculation (arithmetic) in an EPM Live Analytics report.   The steps are applicable whether you are building a new report or updating an existing report.

1. Navigate to the EPM Live Analytics Reports Page

  1. On the navigation menu, select Reports to open the Business Intelligence Center.
  2. Click EPM Live Analytics.

2. Open Report Designer

  1. If you are on the Reports landing page, hover over a report to show the Print and Edit icon buttons.  Click the Edit icon.  -- Or --
  2. If you are already viewing a report, click the Open in Designer icon.

3. Sorting (S)

Select the S (sort) check box if you want the report data table to be sorted in ascending order by the field selected in the Field drop down menu to the left. You can also sort in descending order in the Field Advanced Properties.  

If you are also using the grouping feature, the data table will sort the groups first, and then will also sort by any additionally selected field(s) within the groupings.

4. Visually Group (VG)

Select the VG (visually group) check box to separate the data table into separate groups with the headings being the values of the select field(s).  

Note: On the Style tab of the Report Designer, you may configure how the groupings will show.

4.1. Grouping by Multiple Fields

You may group by multiple fields.  If you group by multiple fields, the data table will be grouped in order as the fields are ordered from top to bottom.  In the example above, the data table will group the projects by Portfolio, and then by Project Type.

5. Arithmetic (A)

The Arithmetic feature performs basic calculations (+, -, x, %) and concatenation of text within the report.  Click in the A check box to cycle through the different operators available: division, multiplication, addition and subtraction.

The arithmetic calculation is based on two fields: the field that has the A check box selected and the field above it.In the example above, the calculation will be to get the Planned Benefit minus the Budget, which would result in the expected revenue.  The A check box is selected on the second of the two fields.  In doing the calculation, one field will show, which will be the calculation.

5.1. Select A Check Box on Second Field Row

Click the A check box as it cycles through division, multiplication, addition, and subtraction.  By selecting the second row in the equation, it becomes greyed out.  

In the example above, the intended calculation is Planned Benefit minus (-) the Budget equals the Revenue.  

5.2. Update Description on First Field Row

Update the Description in the first field.  This is the field where the calculation will show.
